The Indian stock market experienced a significant downturn
on Monday. The BSE Sensex dropped nearly 1,314.71 points (1.53%) to 84,257.14
levels intraday, while the Nifty fell 384.15 points (1.47%) to 25,794.10
levels. By the close, the BSE Sensex stood at 84,299.78, down 1,272.07 points
(1.49%), and the Nifty50 index closed at 25,810.85, down 368.10 points (1.41%).
This decline follows a period of consecutive fresh highs for
both indices. On Friday, the Sensex had reached 85,978.25, nearing the 86,000
marks, and the Nifty had peaked at 26,277.35.
The market’s retreat can be attributed to several factors,
including profit booking by investors after the recent rally, concerns over
global economic conditions, and fluctuations in crude oil prices. Additionally,
the upcoming earnings season and potential changes in monetary policy have
added to the market’s volatility.
